The Fall

Channel Outfitters

Well kids, it looks like the August cool down has happened right on time. The dry-fly fishing this August has been the best I’ve ever seen! I think the fish will continue to look up for ants, hoppers, caddis and tiny suedos. No need to nymph fish at this point, it’s good as well. The browns are big and the rainbows are fat. Time to get your fall fishing on.

Big Trout

Missouri River Outfitters

We have been doing well catching Big Trout. High water always makes the fish big! I have been getting lucky landing some bigs every day. The water is back on the rise due to heavy rain storms up river. The fish are just getting bigger eating all the worms, ants, sowbugs and emerging insects. We are hopeful that the river will drop to offer a better dry- fly bite. Until then, we will be catching these to pass the time,

We have high water here on the Mo. The fishing is very good! On years when the water gets really high the fish get really big! Of course the dry-fly fishing is not happening until the water gets below 12000 CFS. If you like to nymph fish with long leaders and lots of weight now is your time! We hook big ones every day when the water is high!

Fun On The Mo

Fly Fishing Montana

Fishing is getting good on the Missouri! Although we have high water, the fishing is very consistent right now. Lots of hard fighting fish are coming to the boat. It seems like the run-off is going to be gone sooner than later. We can’t wait for some dry-fly fishing! Stay tuned.

August Does Not Suck

As you can see August does not suck, at least from this anglers standpoint. The dog days of summer are not the ideal fishing scenario but big browns like to eat it for the patient anglers. I always have guided some of the my biggest fish in August. Warm weather and warm water doesn’t seem to bother big browns. It might make them more hungry! The warm water makes them easier to land. While you are in you air-conditioned homes I will be here catching pigs!

Channel Outfitters Big Browns

Big Browns

I Like to guide for big brown trout! It never gets old when a big one rises to your dry fly. We are in the thick part of our summer caddis hatch at the moment. The bugs have the big guys looking up! If you want to get the big ones have your people call my people!

Missouri River Fly Fishing Report

June is over and what a month it was.! Hatches were strong and fish were up on them if you know where to look. July looks good, we still have some mayflies. The caddis are getting very strong! I seen many fish up on the caddis yesterday and many wade fishers were on the attack. It is the season for high river usage of non fisherman. Unfortunately we can not detain them, expect stupidity!

The above picture is Eva Sweet holding her biggest brown trout to date. The big boy ate a size 16 mayfly. After 4 years of intense training Eva is now a certified stick! She can throw dry’s with the best of them. Great job Eva!
