May Day

Here we are fishing into the month of May. Fly fishing on the Missouri River has started slow this spring due to high and cold water. We are starting to experience better more consistent fly fishing. The water temps are bringing the bigger and better hatches. We have been putting our clients on some rally good brown trout. The trend will continue as the water warms a few more degrees. Give us a call and get your days booked for the Mighty Mo.

Spring Special

It is time to get out and get those flies wet. We will be offering our Spring Special March 15 until May 1. For only $400 per day, 2 anglers can do a guided float down the famous Missouri River. The fishing can be great this time of year and the guides are happy. Gives us a call and book it now!

Montana Whitetails

Montana Guides And Outfitters

My friend and fellow mule deer hunter Mike L. came out to hunt again last season. Mike killed the biggest mule deer in the state a few years back. This time we just wanted to have some fun and see what we could find. I knew of some good mulies from bow season but we couldn’t find them, big country out there. I did tell Mike that the whitetail deer had been doing well the last few years and might see a good one that could make us forget about the mule deer. As we were just about done for the day we spotted a big old whitetail laying on the edge of a field. Mike said I’ll shoot that! I agreed as I was counting six points on each side and the buck looked old. After a quick sneak we where in position. Mike’s trusty 270 put the old deer to sleep.

The Fall

Channel Outfitters

Well kids, it looks like the August cool down has happened right on time. The dry-fly fishing this August has been the best I’ve ever seen! I think the fish will continue to look up for ants, hoppers, caddis and tiny suedos. No need to nymph fish at this point, it’s good as well. The browns are big and the rainbows are fat. Time to get your fall fishing on.

Big Browns With Channel Outfitters

Things have really heated up here on the Missouri River. It’s hot and so is the fishing. The water is nearly at a good level to fish some dries. The nymph fishing is quiet hot! We get a big brown almost every day. Hopper fishing will be soon. Time to get on over to the Mo!!!

Fly-Fishing The Mighty Mo

Lots of water, Lots of big browns! The river has been plenty high this year, high water makes for some big fish. That being said, I’m over the high water and the nymph fishing! We can look forward to a good hopper fishing season but I’m afraid the may-fly and caddis hatch will be wasted due to high flows. If you waited to long to make plans this season, that might be a good thing. Lets hope the water drops and the fish rise. Until then we will just keep catching these!

Big Trout

Missouri River Outfitters

We have been doing well catching Big Trout. High water always makes the fish big! I have been getting lucky landing some bigs every day. The water is back on the rise due to heavy rain storms up river. The fish are just getting bigger eating all the worms, ants, sowbugs and emerging insects. We are hopeful that the river will drop to offer a better dry- fly bite. Until then, we will be catching these to pass the time,

Had some fun times with the Tim Stein group. These guys do it right! Rent a house in Craig Montana and fish the Missouri for 3 days. Great food and great guides. They are booked for the same time next year because it is that good! Yes they do have a little competition, The biggest brown takes the cup. Ray won the prestigious award two years running. Not easy to do when the guides are trying to crush each other and the clients are out for blood! Good times with good guys!

Missouri River Fly Fishing Trips

Missouri River Fly Fishing Report

Missouri River Fly Fishing Trips

We have high water here on the Mo. The fishing is very good! On years when the water gets really high the fish get really big! Of course the dry-fly fishing is not happening until the water gets below 12000 CFS. If you like to nymph fish with long leaders and lots of weight now is your time! We hook big ones every day when the water is high!
